CCCOC Fiscal Year Highlights

by E. Susanne Francis-Thornton, Psy.D.- Executive Director

“Losing my mother to cancer was the most devastating loss in my life.”

Last fall, Stephanie* found herself getting more and more depressed. As a student, Stephanie had no insurance and a very small income from her part-time job. Thanks to generous donors, an affordable fee was worked out for Stephanie, and she was able to begin therapy.

Recently, Stephanie reported that she now has access to valuable “tools” that help her cope. Stephanie also states she has experienced the ability to recapture hope and the newness of life. Stephanie wrote us, “I can’t believe that I found a place that had such qualified people, and that was affordable to me in my present situation.”

This past year we have been thrilled to be a part of the wonderful things God is doing through us and the people, agencies and churches we partner with.

• With a total of $98,472 in un-reimbursed services given to clients utilizing the sliding fee scale, we have increased our impact on serving those who could otherwise not afford services to over 47% of our clients.

• We have continued to build relationships within the schools and after school programs in the Chicagoland area, providing over 150 1st-12 graders group counseling on a weekly basis, teaching topics such as basic social skills and conflict resolution.

Just this week were honored with a Title I No Child Left Behind Contract to do even more school groups, parent trainings and teacher trainings within the non-public schools. The opportunity to contract with Chicago Public Schools to provide services has been a truly exciting experience.

• CCCOC has been able to also increase our involvement with churches and community agencies increase. As a result of the increased partnerships, CCCOC hosted or provided over 20 seminars that included marriage seminars, trainings on topics such as depression and spirituality, anger management, conflict in the workplace and home, working with the difficult client, effective discipline and eating disorders.

• Events such as free depression and anxiety screenings were held specifically for Seniors and another for the homeless through partnering with La Salle Street Church’s Senior Center and Breaking Bread ministries. Breaking Bread has also established a partnership for it’s guests, resulting in CCCOC being able to provide individual therapy and seminars! We actually just completed a 6 week art therapy group that was attended by over 15 Breaking Bread guests each group!

• Our 6th Annual Vision Benefit was a true fun filled evening in the city with record breaking attendance and giving as over 300 guests attended and, along with not attending donors, helped us raise 33% more support than ever to further our ability to provide opportunities of hope and healing to those who could not receive them otherwise.

• We are seeking to focus on building sustainability and are happy to welcome our two post-docs, Dr. Nicole Noble and Dr. Rodney Harris on as full time therapist as of September 2007. Having several full time therapists on staff will help us plan, serve and build up our ability to serve our community.

• Help us start the new fiscal year strong! Come out and visit us during the open houses offered in September, refer a friend or come yourself to the marriage seminars also going on in September. Invite us to your corporation, church or community agency to do a workshop or training. Listen to us once a month on radio station AM1110. Pray for us. Volunteer with your time and talent. Give your gifts and change a life!

Stories like Stephanie’s are a testimony for how the Lord has continued to allow CCCOC to collaborate and unite our hearts, hands and passions to help those in need. We are thankful and appreciative to all those who have given time, financial support, prayers, referrals and opportunities.
